A Base for Exploration

There’s plenty to see and do nearby:

Ubud. Famed as a centre of the arts, a visit here is a must. Browse the galleries, but also leave time to roam around the magnificent temples, shops and museum. Wander off the main street for glimpses into authentic Balinese village life.

Volcanos. Bali has several active and extinct volcanos with Mount Batur (visible from Ananda House) the most famous.

Rice terraces. Like a giant flight of steps, the vivid green terraces are Bali at its most beautiful. Those at Jatiluwih are protected by UNESCO.

Sanur. A charming seaside town just 25 minutes away, Sanur features a 2 km boardwalk along the beach.

Tofu factory. This ancient tofu factory is still producing mouth-watering tofu using time honoured methods and dedication (images below). Only ten minutes from Green village.

Sacred Water Temple, Pura Tirta Empul Tampaksiring. About 45 minutes from Green Village is Pura Tirta Empul, an important Temple Complex and Sacred Mountain Spring, where Balinese and visitors can be cleansed, body and soul, through immersion in the cool, clear water gushing from the stone heads of Gods. Visit early morning and avoid weekends and religious festivals. A ‘must see’.

Arts and crafts shopping. To say that Bali is rich in art is an understatement. Watch local artisans create intricate wood and stone carvings, woven textiles, batik, jewellery, and more.

Green School and PT Bamboo Factory. Join an informative tour of this world-famous eco-focussed school, and see how bamboo can be transformed.

Morning walks. Stroll down to our local market to stock up on fresh fruit. and more info here…

Nature spotting. No need to leave the grounds of Ananda House. In the Ayung river, you often see giant monitor lizards, or spy a kingfisher flashing its way along the valley. Butterflies are everywhere.
